Hi there, i just got a new 2013 Smart Passion. I'm thinking to put a new set of S-Mann Lowering Springs and a new set of wheels cause it's so scary on the free way. ;D
How many of you guys going to Jam On The Dam II?

Does Lowering Spring improve alot of roadholding? Thanks in advance. My first post here... About 20 years ago I attended a technical tutorial given to a car club by spring engineers who worked at Suspension Techniques. They went into a lot of detail (including the math) on the physics of typical cornering dynamics. I'm doing this from memory... IIRC there were a couple big take-aways: - unless you are a spring engineer, don't cut stock springs to achieve different dynamics.
- adding a beefier anti-sway bar was usually a good thing for street vehicles, as it lowers the center of gravity during cornering by causing the entire vehicle to "squat" during cornering, returning to normal ride height after you straighten out. This achieves most of the benefit of "lowering" without sacrificing straight-line stock spring comfort.
- also changing stock springs can be good depending on what dynamic you want to achieve. The combination of new springs, typically somewhat stiffer & lowering the car with a beefy set of anti-sway bars helps handling quite a bit - but you'll definitely feel a bit more harshness. That's the tradeoff.
I installed a matched kit of springs & sway bars & Tokico Illumina shocks from Suspension Techniques on a late 80s MR2. The handling improvement was extraordinary. On a smart -- well, YMMV.
